Garth Brooks has been one of my favorite musicians for as long as I can remember.
Vince Gill, George Straight, Alabama, and most importantly, Garth Brooks filled my childhood with country music. I think my desire to wear western boots and cowboy hats comes from that generation of my life!
In my 40s, Garth still can be heard in my truck, and in the Fall of 2021,
Steph and I finally saw Garth live at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Incredible show and experience.
In thinking about this year, his hit from 1992 The River stuck out...

The River is one of Garth's early smash hits talking about the river of life.
There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all...
2022 has been the River. A year of changes I'd never have expected or anticipated.
In order of how the more significant events starting in January 2022.....(a non-exhaustive list)
Steph started working part-time for an accountant
named the principal of a new middle school
my best friend died unexpectedly
I won a national principal of the year award and visited DC for the event
I left being a principal
started working for an esports company
a child in middle school, 4th grade & 1st grade
gained 20lbs
rediscovered that my calling as a follower of Jesus is more significant than my career
While many more events occurred during 2022 involving family and myself, these are some of the more significant.
What does 2023 have in store...no idea... and that is ok with me.
Yet, who am I and who will I strive to be....
I am a fallen person who sometimes does stupid things and says dumb stuff.
I choose to surround myself with Godly folks, read my bible, pray, ask for forgiveness, serve those around me, take care of my body (at times), and live the best life I can for my wife, family, and friends.
My life is better than I deserve, and I try not to take that for granted.

I know Who I serve and Why I do what I do as a man, husband, and father.
Do you?
